Adding the GARAN-Label and legal guarantee notice in JTL-Shop
Which path applies depends on your JTL-Shop version: 5.8 and above includes this natively, earlier versions need a small manual setup that's just as valid.
As of 1 September 2026, JTL-Shop version 5.8 includes native support for this labelling out of the box. On earlier versions, a configurable product attribute is sufficient as a manual alternative. This page is a recommendation based on the current market situation, not legal advice.
Two distinct obligations live on this page. The legal guarantee notice is mandatory across your whole catalogue, that's step 1 below. The GARAN-Label is conditional: it's only needed on products where you advertise a manufacturer guarantee over 2 years, and how you add it (step 2) depends on your JTL-Shop version.
Step 1: add the legal guarantee notice
This is mandatory on every physical product, regardless of version. On Shop 5.8+, check your product settings for the relevant legal/guarantee field and add it there directly. On earlier versions, add it once directly in the product detail template, since it's identical for every product and only needs placing once.
Step 2: add the GARAN-Label, if it applies to you
Only relevant for products where you advertise a voluntary manufacturer guarantee of more than 2 years. Where it applies, the label is specific to that product (brand, model, guarantee duration), so create a free account and generate it at GARAN-Label.com first, sandbox mode is free to try, before deciding which of the two paths below fits your shop.
Shop 5.8 and above: the native field
JTL-Shop includes this labelling as a built-in feature from version 5.8, so no custom attribute or template edit is required. Upload the generated GARAN-Label directly in the product's legal/guarantee field.
Earlier than 5.8: a configurable product attribute
A JTL-Shop upgrade is a bigger project, backup, staging, template and plugin compatibility, than most merchants want to take on this close to the deadline. The good news: a plain product attribute gets you to the exact same compliant outcome, at a fraction of the effort.
- Create a configurable attribute of type image for products.
- Upload the generated GARAN-Label per product to that attribute.
- Output it in the desired place in your template (typically
Standard/templates/.../Boxes/or the product detail template file).
Important: the GARAN-Label must not appear as an additional product image in the regular image gallery. Output the attribute specifically in the information area of the product page, for example below the description or near shipping/delivery information.
How to generate the labels
Regardless of your JTL-Shop version, start by creating a free account at GARAN-Label.com, sandbox mode costs nothing, so you can see the finished label before deciding on an attribute or waiting on an upgrade. Then decide how you want to generate the real labels:
Small catalogue
Manual mode: enter brand, model, and guarantee duration, and download the label right away.
Large catalogue
CSV mode gives you a result file with brand, model, and the matching label URL for every product.
Alternative: let an agency implement it
If you'd rather not do the technical implementation yourself, you can delegate it to a JTL agency to set up the attribute and template output for you.

Frequently asked questions about JTL-Shop
Is upgrading to JTL-Shop 5.8 required to be compliant?
No. The manual attribute approach below achieves the same legal outcome as the native field, a PNG uploaded to a product attribute is just as valid as one in a dedicated field. Upgrading is a convenience, not a compliance requirement.
How do I check which JTL-Shop version I'm running?
Your installed Shop version is shown in the JTL-Shop backend, typically in the system information or footer area of the admin panel.
Should I upgrade to 5.8 just for this feature?
Think it through before deciding. A shop upgrade means a backup, a staging test, and checking every template and plugin for compatibility, real time and cost, sometimes more than the whole labelling project. If you weren't already planning to upgrade, adding one configurable attribute is almost always cheaper and faster before the deadline. Upgrading makes more sense if it was on your roadmap anyway.
Can I just add the GARAN-Label to the regular product images?
No. The GARAN-Label is product-specific additional information, not a product photo. Whether native or via a custom attribute, output it in the information area of the product page, not the image gallery.
